Scenario Cards: 3 Pro Rituals

The Practice

By now, you likely know that Scenario Cards are the ultimate shortcut to a great conversation, but for those who have been part of our community for a while, these decks can become a transformative daily practice.
If you’re ready to move past the basics and lead others into deeper waters, here are three "not-for-beginners" methods to use your cards. These are rituals we have personally tested that turn a simple deck of cards into a catalyst for profound growth.
1. Open a Sharing Circle
If you’re part of (or host) a group, try starting your next gathering with Scenario Cards.
I’ve used this to open a men’s circle, and it’s a powerful way to help people drop in quickly.
It breaks the ice, encourages vulnerability, and gets everyone connected before diving into deeper conversation.
It can also lead to some laughter (which helps to ease any nervous energy).
Simply read a card and invite each person to share their response while the rest of the group listens.
2. Your “Deep Dive” Card
Find a card that really stirs something in you: maybe it makes you think, maybe it brings up inner conflict, or maybe you just love the exploration it induces.
Once a week (or once a month), journal out your answer.
Each time you journal, spend a few minutes revisiting your previous responses to see how your perspective has shifted over time.
Bonus option: Do this with a dear friend or a partner and share your responses and how they’ve evolved! You can even make it a weekly ritual!
Writer’s note: I got this idea from couples therapy. Our therapist had my wife and me answer several reflection questions before each session to track our progress.
It worked wonders, and it helped us understand each other much better!
3. The “Scenario Hour”
This one’s great when you have the time to really go deep.
It can be just you and a partner/friend, or ideally a small group (3-7).
How it works:
Sit in a circle (if you can).
Have each person pick a few Scenario Cards, then combine them into a shared pile of 5-15 cards (facing down).
Each “round” begins by drawing a card. Everyone answers the same questions once (they can always pass).
When you feel ready for a new question, then draw another card to begin the next “round”.
Keep going until the hour’s up, or until the conversation naturally winds down.
At the end of the hour, invite a final “learning round”.
For this, ask the group, “After answering these questions and hearing others share, what did you learn from this?”
Give each person 2-4 minutes to share their learnings.
From Conversation to Transformation
These advanced methods take the wisdom found in Scenario Cards and turn it into a living, breathing practice. Whether you are leading a group or tracking your own evolution, these "pro" moves help you milk every bit of insight from your decks.
