Scenario Cards: The Facilitator’s Edge

3 minute read

When you hold your Scenario Cards in your hands, you are holding a tool designed for potential connection, and as a facilitator, you are the one who sparks that flame.

I think it’s safe to assume that you enjoy leading conversations.

So, know that you’re not just a participant and player anymore, you’re also a leader. A guide, facilitator, etc.

When you pull out a deck of Scenario Cards, you’re creating space for reflection, courage, and connection.

That’s bold. And meaningful.

So please… get creative. Try new formats. Adapt questions. Surprise people. Surprise yourself!

Inspire others to ask more, listen more, and share more.

Here are a few advanced prompts you can try, some more wild than others:

For Partners, Friends, and Family

1. The Destination Conversation 🌍

Take your Scenario Cards somewhere new: a park bench, a cozy café, or out in nature, and notice how the environment changes the flow, tone, and depth of the conversation or exploration.

2. The Echo Game 👂

After they answer a question, repeat their response in your own words.

Ask them to rate your response. How accurate was it?

This builds connection, and it also helps you improve your listening skills.

3. Assumptions & Beyond ♾️

Answer the question as if you were the other person, then check for accuracy.

What was spot-on? What was off? How did they feel when they heard your guess?

Then switch.

4. The Session Spark 🎬

Have a client pick a card at the start of the session. This is a creative way to get things started that’s a bit more lively than asking, "So, how have you been since we last spoke?"

5. The Timeline Mix-Up 🕰️

Draw a card and ask your client (or friend) to answer it as their younger self (e.g., at age 10) or their future self (e.g., 20 years from now). This helps bridge the gap between who they were and who they are becoming.

6. Future Letter 📜

Journal your answer to Scenario Cards. Then imagine your future self: 2, 5, or 10 years from now, and answer again.

Notice: What changed? What stayed the same? What surprised you?

(You can also do this with others!)

7. The "Wildcard" Experiment

Don't be afraid to adapt the Scenario Cards. Change the wording, combine two cards into one, or use the "What If" prompt to write a fictional story about your own life. The cards are the spark, but your imagination is the flame.

The Magic is in the Practice

We created the product, but the real magic only happens when you put it into practice. As an experienced user, you are the pioneer. How you choose to use these cards is limited only by your imagination.

Enjoy these ideas, embrace the awkwardness of the "Echo Game," and most importantly, enjoy the insights that follow.
