I received a box of We’re Not Really Strangers as a birthday present last year, but the questions were too serious for some people. Scenario Cards are intimate but not too direct. I like how the questions are formulated so one does not feel pressured to give the “right” answer. Especially if one is shy and takes a while to warm up people. By far the best of all the conversation games I tried!
The purpose collection is a great set of cards that truly helped me initiate better conversations with family members or friends I wasn’t yet so close with. Often, they ask me to bring it back the next time!
It’s really easy to use them without being super intimate (like having different friends groups over that are starting to mix, or getting to know someone new) but also super helpful and fun to use to just widen the topics with people you already share a lot with.
The thematic decks combined with the spices ranking (of how personal the question is) makes it great for all kinds of settings and relationships. The questions are well thought and open enough to be as deep as you want them to be.
Personnally, I’ve used them on chill game nights, car rides or long walks (just pick a deck before you go), and also love to just have them à aimable in the room for when I have people over (curiosity sparks and someone picks a card while you’re cooking, a new conversation just begun).
I haven’t tried it yet but I also think they could be a great idea to make some first dates less weird, more easyflowing and significant.

Fantastic for reflection and smartphone-avoidance!
When I got the cards, I just opened one pack or another, flipped through the cards and thought briefly about an answer. Then (when ordering more collections to give them away to a friend) Saffron (a "Customer Happiness Specialist", thriving in his position imho) suggested a slower approach - now I pick a random card out of one of the packs, write the question down as well as my answer. This is a way better approach to really reflect on the question, and the writing process not only was a very calming task but also brought more insight than a quick thought. I already gave out cards in my English lessons (I´m a teacher), my students´ answers showed beautifully that today´s youth has way more inner depth than you´d anticipate!
Apart from the obvious goal to think about deep questions another goal is to get me spend more time without my Smartphone - meanwhile I look forward to answering the next question and have "sacrificed" quite some Youtube-scrolling-time, makes me happy!
